Travel Agent Accreditation ProgrammeInternational Cruise Council of Australasia – Travel Agent Accreditation Programme
Mary Elgar of Mondo Travel, The Mezz, Mt Hawthorn has recently completed the highly respected International Cruise Council Australasia Accreditation programme. Mondo Travel said they had undertaken the training in response to growing demand for cruising holidays. Latest Cruise Council statistics show that more than 330,949 Australians took a cruise holiday in 2008, a 26% increase on 2007 numbers
“Given the huge interest in cruise holidays, we felt that our office needed to hold a qualification that would be well recognised” Mary Elgar said. “Now our clients will know that when they book a cruise through Mondo Travel they will be getting the right advice”
Formed 13 years ago, the International Cruise Council of Australasia is an industry body which aims to increase travel agents’ understanding of the wide range of cruise products available for passengers, as well as the enormous variety of cruise itineraries worldwide.
The Council is committed to the philosophy7 of “right client, right ship” with more than 4000 travel agents undergoing its training and accreditation programme since 1997. To achieve accreditation, travel agents must complete mandatory training on a range of topics, including an introduction to cruising, cruise-selling skills and cruise geography. They must also gain some shipboard experience to complete the course.
The Cruise Council has 24 member cruise lines and its website www.cruising.org.au provides a comprehensive guide to all the destinations visited by member cruise lines, as well as a search function to help holidaymakers find their nearest Council-accredited travel agent.
